Couplings are one of the key components in mechanical transmission. It is composed of two rotary bodies with flanges, and the two halves of the coupling sleeves are respectively meshed with the upper tooth profiles of the driving gears on both sides to transmit torque. Working under high-speed and heavy-load conditions, its reliability, life and performance have an important impact on the working accuracy of the entire mechanical system.

The common ordinary double-flange rigid spur coupling is composed of a pair of semicircular flanged outer rings with the same pitch circle diameter (referred to as the inner ring) and a grooved outer ring (referred to as the outer ring). It is a basic type of flexible coupling with simple structure, high strength, large bearing capacity, and easy disassembly and assembly, which is connected by bolts. This structural form is widely used as an intermediate transmission element in various mechanical equipment.

Its main advantages are:

(1) It has large radial stiffness and angular displacement capacity;

(2) Simple and compact structure;

(3) Easy to manufacture and low cost;

(4) It can allow a relatively large angle of deviation without causing additional bending stress or torsional deformation stress;

(5) It is suitable for the case where the axis deviation is not more than 2° at medium speed.
